MALIBU, Calif. – For the second year in a row, Chris Dilworth of the #6 Pepperdine men's water polo team has been named to the All-Golden Coast Conference first team. He is joined on the first team by Balazs Kosa. Also earning postseason honors are Marko Asic, John Claude Marco and Mate Toth, who all earned honorable mention, and Austin Smit, who was named to the All-Freshman team.
Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) makes his second appearance on the All-GCC first team after another spectacular year. He scored 38 goals, which was good for fifth on the team. He led the Waves in drawn exclusions with 50 while only being excluded 10 times all year. He was also second on the team in shooting percentage, converting 46.9% of his shots into goals. He led the Waves with goals during GCC play, scoring 13 and shooting 59% in the five conference games.
Kosa (Budapest, Hungary/Csik Ferenc Altalanos Iskola es Gimnazium) built upon his stellar freshman campaign last year, scoring 79 goals, 18 more than anyone else in the conference. He also led the conference in assists with 39 and his 118 total points were 30 more than the next closest player. He was also a key component to the Waves' defense, notching 26 steals, good for a tie for fourth in the GCC. This is his first time being named to the first team, as last year he was named to the second team and all-freshman team.
Asic (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) returns to the All-GCC team after missing last year due to injury. He came back to the team and fell right in stride with his previous three years, scoring 57 goals, good for second on the team. He also added 11 assists to bring his points total to 68, which was good for a tie for sixth in the conference. The honorable mention is the fourth postseason award of his career, as he earned first team honors each of his first three years as a Wave.
Marco (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) earns his first ever postseason award, taking home honorable mention honors in 2019. After missing the majority of the year due to injury, Marco jumped right back between the posts and was the difference maker in many of the Waves' wins down the final stretch. He accumulated 56 saves on the year, good for top-10 in the conference.
Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) earns his fourth-straight postseason award and third-straight honorable mention. He was fifth on the team in goals scored with 37, second on the team in assists with 24 and third on fourth on the team in total points with 61. A prominent force in the Waves' defense, Toth was tied for third on the team with 20 steals.
Smit (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) makes his first appearance on the postseason award list, earning All-Freshman honors. Smit had a solid first campaign for the Waves, scoring 15 goals and assisting on three more for a total of 18 points on the year.
The Waves earned the #2 seed in the GCC Tournament this weekend which Pepperdine is hosting. The team takes on the winner of #6 UC Irvine and #3 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 11:15 am at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.
