Men's Hoops Pounds CSUN, 94-82

NORTHRIDGE, California – Brothers Kameron and Kessler Edwards each scored 22 points to lead the Pepperdine men's basketball team to a 94-82 victory at CSUN on Tuesday night.
 
The Waves (2-1) led by 10 at halftime and a 17-0 run in the second half helped blow the game open against the Matadors (0-3).
 
BIG WAVES
  • Sophomore forward Kessler Edwards (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS) had career highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds. He hit the 20-point mark for the first time in his career. He notched his fourth career double-double. He made four three-pointers and also had three assists and two blocks.
  • Senior forward Kameron Edwards (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS) scored 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting in just 23 minutes of action. He added five rebounds and made two three-pointers.
  • Junior guard Colbey Ross (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS) recorded his ninth record double-double with 14 points and 12 assists. He finished one assist shy of his career best. He also had six rebounds.
  • Junior guard Skylar Chavez (Woodacre, Calif./Drake HS/Santa Rosa JC) sank three three-pointers and scored nine points.
  • Junior guard Jade' Smith (Oakland, Calif./St. Joseph Notre Dame HS) contributed eight points and three rebounds.
KEY STATS 
  • The Waves outshot the Matadors 49.2% to 46.4%.
  • Both teams had impressive nights shooting from distance, with the Waves at 13-for-28 (46.4%) and the Matadors at 13-for-24 (54.2%).
  • CSUN's Terrell Gomez made seven three-pointers and scored a game-high 33 points.
PLAY BY PLAY
 
The Waves kept the Matadors scoreless for nearly 4 1/2 minutes early in the contest, leading to a 10-0 run (the last five scored by Kessler Edwards) and a 12-5 lead. Edwards hit four three-pointers in about a six-minute span, helping Pepperdine to a 21-12 lead at the half's midway point.
 
The Waves' biggest lead of the first half was 14 points at 33-19 on a Smith basket with about four minutes left, and Pepperdine went into the break with a 37-27 lead.
 
The lead stayed around 10 points for the first eight minutes of the second half, and then the Waves put the game away with a 17-0 run (10 of them by the Edwards brothers) that lasted more than five minutes, making the score 76-51 with seven minutes to play.
 
NOTABLES 
  • Pepperdine now leads the all-time series with CSUN 11-9.
  • This was Pepperdine's most points in a road game since scoring 98 at San Francisco in January 2016.
  • Ross raised his career assist total to 445 and passed Jon Korfas (438) for third place on the Waves' all-time list. He's now 49 behind Jeremy Major's school record (494).
