MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team prepared for the regular season on Tuesday night, defeating Biola 77-49 in an exhibition game in Firestone Fieldhouse.
Paige Fecske led all scorers with 26 points in her first game back from a season-ending injury last year.
BIG WAVES
- Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) had the best day on the court for either team, scoring 26 points, shooting 9-17 and 4-8 from beyond the arc. She also dished out five assists and brought down two rebounds.
- Deezha Battle (Albuquerque, N.M./Cochise College) had nine points and one assist.
- Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) had eight points, four assists and seven rebounds.
KEY STATS
- The Waves shot 47.5% from the field, compared to the 35.3% of the Eagles.
- Pepperdine got to the line 29 times, converting on 17 of its foul shots. Biola only got to the line 14 times, making nine shots from the stripe.
- The Waves had the advantage at the glass, bringing down 46 rebounds compared to the 35 of the Eagles.
GAME RECAP
The Waves got off to an extremely hot start, scoring the game's first 22 points. Of those 22 points, Fecske had nine. After the Eagles got their first points, the Waves scored on a
Hannah Friend (San Clemente, Calif./Sacramento State) free throw to take a 23-5 lead into the second quarter. Friend also made a jumper early in the quarter, and had five points in the first.
In the second, the Waves spread the points around, with 10 different players scoring. Battle and Sitanggan led the way in the second, each scoring four points. To end the half, the Waves went on a 10-2 run, leading the Eagles 46-18 after two quarters of play.
Fecske went off in the third, scoring 12 of her 26 total points and shooting a perfect 5-5 from the field, including 2-2 from three. She scored two-thirds of the Waves' points in the quarter, helping the lead grow to 64-35.
The Waves scored 13 points from six different players in the fourth quarter.
Ashleen Quirke (Los Gatos, Calif./Foothill College) led the way with all four of her points, cementing the 77-49 victory for the Waves.

The Waves open the regular season next Tuesday, traveling to Washington State for a non-conference matchup. Tip-off for that game is set for 7 p.m. PT. After the game in Pullman, the Waves have their home opener against Cal Poly on Sunday, Nov. 10 in Firestone Fieldhouse, tipping off at 2 p.m.
