IRVINE, Calif. – The #6 Pepperdine men's water polo team continued its winning ways, defeating #11 UC Irvine on Friday night 14-10.
Balazs Kosa and
Marko Asic each had four goals on the night, leading the Waves to the team's sixth-straight victory.
The Waves (16-5) trailed after the first period to the Anteaters (6-8) but came back in the second and didn't relinquish the lead.
GAME RECAP
The Anteaters got the scoring started at the beginning of the game, scoring the first two goals. Kosa (Budapest, Hungary/Csik Ferenc Általános Iskola És Gimnázium) and Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) both scored to even the game at two goals apiece before UC Irvine took the lead with a goal just before the quarter break.
Chris Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) scored in the second after the Anteaters took a two-goal lead, and his goal was followed up by Kosa's second goal of the night. The Waves got four goals in a row thanks to Jarvis,
Mate Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erszebet Boarding School) and two goals from Asic to close out the half. Going into halftime, the Waves led 8-6.
In the second half, the Waves scored first as Jarvis completed his hat trick and put the Waves up 9-6.
George Mooney (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS) scored his first goal of the night and was followed by Kosa getting his third and pushing the Waves' lead to 11-8 at the end of the third quarter. To close the game, the Waves and Anteaters traded goals, with Asic getting his third and fourth of the night along with Kosa scoring his fourth to cement the 14-10 victory.
