#7 Women's Tennis Heads to Las Vegas for Freeman Memorial

MALIBU, Calif. – The #7 Pepperdine women's tennis team heads to Las Vegas, Nev. on Friday through Sunday to compete in the 17th Annual Freeman Memorial Championship at UNLV and open the 2019 spring campaign.

The Waves will begin with doubles on Friday entering pairs Ashley Lahey and Adrijana Lekaj, Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine and Dzina Milovanovic and Daria Kuczer.  Singles will follow with Lahey, Iamachkine, Lekaj, Kuczer, Milovanovic, and Satsuki Takamura.

FREEMAN MEMORIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The tournament will be hosted by the UNLV Rebels at the Fertitta Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The competition will begin on Friday morning. Competitors from institutions throughout the country will be in appearance, including #7 Pepperdine, #1 Stanford, #3 North Carolina, #6 Texas, #8 UCLA, #11 Florida and UNLV.

Each day will begin with doubles matches at 10 a.m. with singles to follow. The doubles semifinals and finals of singles and doubles will be held on Sunday, January 20th.

THE WAVES
The Waves finished their fall season with a record of 51-19 (.728) in their singles matches and 20-8 (.714) for doubles.

The Waves boast two newcomers for the spring 2019 season including Satsuki Takamura and Daria Kuczer. Takamura comes to Pepperdine from Saitama, Japan. She earned a career high in the WTA singles ranking at #621 and WTA doubles ranking of #1265.

Kuczer joins Pepperdine from Szczecin, Poland and was ranked #1 in Poland during her U14, U16, and U18 age groups. She earned her highest WTA rankings for singles at #1013 and doubles at #558.

#28 Jessica Failla reached the ITA Southwest Regional singles final during the fall season. Although being defeated, her performance led to an automatic bid to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. She fell to a ranked opponent in the finals at the ITA Fall Nationals.

#106 Ashley Lahey competed in the ITA Fall Nationals in both singles and doubles. She advanced to the singles sweet 16, where she was defeated by a more highly ranked opponent. Lahey was also selected for and competed in the U.S. Master'U Collegiate tournament for team USA winning all three of her singles matches to help win the Master U' title. Last season, Lahey reached the NCAA Singles Championship final, falling just short in the bout.

Ashley Lahey and Evgeniya Levashova started the fall season ranked #26 but through the fall season rose to #1. The duo advanced to the finals of the ITA Regionals but were defeated. They also saw the finals of the ITA Fall Nationals but fell to an outranked opponent.

Anastasia Iamachkine reached the singles semifinals of the Jack Kramer Invitational. Also competed in the ASU fall tournament, winning her singles game and doubles when paired with Lekaj.

#17 Evgeniya Levashova opened the fall season by making the finals of the Oracle/ITA Masters and falling just short of the victory after posting several upsets during the quarterfinals and semifinals. She also made the consolation finals of the Riviera/ITA All-American Qualifying.

Failla and Iamachkine paired up for the Riviera/ITA Qualifying Draw for which they advanced to the sweet 16 qualifying round.

Adrijana Lekaj competed in the ASU fall tournament, where she won singles and double with Iamachkine. She competed in the Pre-Qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA.

Dzina Milovanovic saw the singles semifinals of the Jack Kramer Invitational. Also saw the doubles semifinals of the Jack Kramer Invitational when paired with Iamchkine. She competed in the ASU fall tournament.
