Waves Battle #4 Cal at Home

MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 11 Pepperdine men's water polo team took on No. 4 Cal on Sunday at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool, falling 13-11. Chris Dilworth had four goals and Mate Toth had a hat trick in the loss.
The Waves (6-6) outscored the Golden Bears (12-1) in the fourth quarter in a valiant try at a comeback, but were unable to close the distance completely.
GAME RECAP
The first quarter was tightly played, as Dilworth(Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) and Balazs Kosa (Budapest, Hungary/Csik Ferenc Altalanos Iskola es Gimnazium) each scored for the Waves. The Golden Bears scored their final of three goals in the quarter as time was expiring to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the Waves got goals from Dilworth  and Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School). Cal had three more goals to end the half ahead 6-4.
The Waves got two straight goals from Dilworth and Sam Paur (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) to start the second half, but Cal came back with three of their own before Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) scored the Waves' seventh goal of the game.
Sean Ferrari (Redwood City, Calif./St. Francis HS) got the Waves on the board to start the fourth quarter. Toth had two back-to-back goals before Dilworth scored his fourth of the day. The Golden Bears got two goals early in the quarter, and held the Waves from scoring in the final two and a half minutes of play to take the victory.
