MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams have their second meet of the season on Friday evening at Washington State's Cougar Classic.

The race will be held at the Colfax Golf Club in Colfax, Wash. The men's 8K will start at 5:15 p.m., followed by the women's 6K at 6 p.m.

MEN'S TEAM
Â
Senior Nick Heath (Scotts Valley, Calif./Scotts Valley HS) led the Waves with a sixth-place finish at the season-opening Mark Covert Classic. One of the Waves' all-time best runners, he's the school-record holder in both the 8K and 10K, plus he's come in first place four times in his three seasons. Heath became the first Wave to receive all-conference status since 2007, as he placed 15th last year to earn All-WCC honorable mention honors. He was named to the 2018 preseason All-WCC team. Plus, he's twice earned CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honors for his work in the classroom.

At the Mark Covert Classic, the Waves #2-5 runners were sophomore Justin Touhey (Stony Point, N.Y./Don Bosco Preparatory HS), freshman Karl Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS), sophomore Kyle Johnson (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester HS) and junior Jalen Frantal (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central HS).

The Waves came in fourth place as a team at the Mark Covert Classic, their best-ever showing.

WOMEN'S TEAM

Sophomore Abbey Meck (Santa Cruz, Calif./San Lorenzo Valley HS) has been the Waves' top finisher at all seven meets she's run in her career, including a 16th-place result at the Mark Covert Classic two weeks ago. She has put her name in the record book at #7 on the Pepperdine's all-time 5K list and #9 on the 6K list.

The team's #2-5 runners at the Mark Covert Classic were sophomore Lindsay Sanger (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson HS), freshman Shelby White (San Antonio, Texas/Winston Churchill HS), junior Cori Persinger (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West HS) and sophomore Caroline Archer (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy).

Head coach Robert Radnoti says: "We're really looking forward to it. This will be the site of next year's regional championship. It's really great meet. There are four or five teams in the top 15 in the West Region there, so we're going up against some really good competition."
