MALIBU, Calif. — Three players with double-doubles helped propel the Pepperdine women's volleyball team towards a straight-set sweep over North Texas on Saturday night to close out day two of the 21
st-annual Pepperdine Asics Classic.
Blossom Sato led the team with 36 assists and added 10 digs, while
Rachel Ahrens and
Shannon Scully marked 10 kills and 10 digs and 11 kills and 10 digs respectively for their double-doubles.

WAVES VS. MEAN GREEN
The Waves outperformed the Mean Green in all areas of play, marking 45 kills on a .327 success rate, while giving up only 27 smashes on a .089 effort from across the net. Pepperdine also tallied 43 assists, six aces, 60 digs and 4.0 team blocks. North Texas posted 24 assists, three aces, 46 digs and 2.0 team blocks.

NOTABLES
- This was the first match between Pepperdine and North Texas all-time.
- The Waves had three players with double-doubles including Blossom Sato, Rachel Ahrens and Shannon Scully. The team also had three Waves hit for double-figure kills with Ahrens, Scully and the team-leader Hannah Frohling. Four players marked double-figure digs with Scully, Sato, Ahrens and Hana Lishman leading the pack.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves came out with high energy to open set one, amassing a 5-1 lead with back-to-back smash efforts from
Tarah Wylie and
Hannah Frohling. The Waves continued to pound down with no let up for the Mean Green, reaching the 18-10 mark late in the action. After a pair of blocks from
Shannon Scully and
Alli O'Harra helped the cause and a service ace from
Blossom Sato and final smash from Scully put the set away with a 25-12 win.
In the second set, Pepperdine went back-and-forth with North Texas throughout, seeing ties at the 8-8 and 17-17 marks throughout. In the final moments, Frohling went on fire with three kills from the outside and a block from O'Harra and Sato put the Waves in a position to close. A second ace from Frohling and a big kill from Scully put the set away 25-18 and put the Waves ahead heading into the third.
Pepperdine took the early lead in the third set, pulling ahead 6-3 early on kills from Frohling and O'Harra, but the opposition countered with an attack effort of their own to make it an 11-11 tie. A big block from Wylie and Scully gave the Waves the next advantage and the home team used it to pull ahead 17-13. After smashes from Scully and O'Harra, Pepperdine had the lead heading into the final moments and shut the door with a big kill effort from Ahrens and some costly errors from the opposition. With the 25-22 third set win, the Waves earned the team's second sweep of the season.
