LAWRENCE, Kansas – The 2018 Pepperdine women's soccer season didn't get started as hoped, as the #18 Waves were beaten 1-0 in the opener at Kansas on Friday evening.
Though the Waves (0-1-0) had advantages in shots (8-6) and overall possession, the Jayhawks (1-0-0) got a goal early in the second half, and Pepperdine couldn't create the right chance over 90 minutes.
Pepperdine had a number of dangerous opportunities, perhaps most notably near-misses by senior midfielder
Christina Settles (Oceanside, Calif./Oceanside HS) in the first half and sophomore forward
Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./Harker School) in the second half.
GOALS
Kansas 61': Jayhawks goalkeeper Sarah Peters kicked a ball upfield, and it took an unfortunate bounce off a Waves' defender at midfield, sending it ahead of Kansas' Katie McClure. That put McClure through on a breakaway and she found the back of the net.
