SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference-leading Pepperdine baseball team fell in the final non-conference game today, losing 15-6 to Cal Poly. Aharon Modlin led the way for the Waves with two hits and three RBI.
The Waves (28-20, 16-8 WCC) fell behind early and the Mustangs (24-27, 9-9 BWC) did not let up, scoring seven runs in the fourth inning, quelling any comeback the Waves attempted.

- Sophomore infielder Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) had the Waves' best day, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
- Sophomore catcher Joe Caparis (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) went 1-for-3 on the evening, with one RBI.

The Mustangs got on the board quickly, scoring a run in the bottom of the first, taking a quick 1-0 lead. The Waves answered back in the top half of the second, on an RBI single from Aharon Modlin to tie the game at 1.
Cal Poly got two runs in the second and three in the third to take a 6-1 lead after three. The Mustangs then scored seven runs in the fourth, taking a 13-1 lead after four innings.
In the sixth inning, the Waves' Billy Cook hit a one-out triple, and then scored on a wild pitch. Then, with runners on second and third, Joe Caparis hit a single deep in the hole at shortstop, scoring Modlin, who had a single earlier in the inning. Josh Davis, who walked, scored from third on a sacrifice fly from Mike Malinchak. After six innings, the Mustangs lead 13-4.
The Mustangs scored two more runs in the seventh inning, pushing their lead to 15-4.
In the ninth inning, the Waves got two runs from a two-RBI single from Modlin, but could not complete the 11-run comeback, falling 15-6.

The Waves return home for the final series of the year, looking to lock up the WCC regular season title against Portland. The first game will be Friday, beginning at 3 p.m.
