MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team hosted two matches at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Wednesday, downing Bucknell in a 5-0 contest, and falling 4-3 in a close match with South Florida.

The Waves (3-10) had three singles wins in the match against the Bulls (5-8), and swept Bucknell (3-12).

MATCH RECAP

The Waves were dominant in the night match against Bucknell, taking the doubles sets on both courts two and three by scores of 6-1. Brian Berdusco and Max Mendelsohn won on court two and Scotland Garapedian and Yusuf Khamis won on court three. Dane Esses and Lautaro Pane were tied at four when the doubles point was clinched.

In singles, the Waves continued to roll, picking up wins on courts two, three, four, and six to clinch the match. Dane Esses won his match on court two over Max Kane 6-0, 6-4 for his second singles match win of the day. Scotland Garapedian won his first singles match of the year on court six 6-1, 6-2, defeating Adrien Crastes. Yusuf Khamis clinched the match for the Waves on court three, defeating Colin Sacco by a score of 6-1, 7-5. Brian Berdusco also won his match against Ben Gerber6-0, 6-4. Max Mendelsohn and Lautaro Pane both won their first sets against Max Garramone and Dan Wright respectively, before rain started and ended the match.

In the nail-biter against USF, the Waves battled the Bulls from start to finish. In a tight doubles competition, the Waves fought hard in every single match. Scotland Garapedian and Yusuf Khamis were rewarded, coming back from being down 4-0 to take their match 7-5. Max Mendelsohn and Brian Berdusco forced a tiebreak, ultimately losing 7-6. Dane Esses and Lautaro broke the serve of Barroso-Campos to tie the match at five before falling 7-5.

Singles competition was also extremely close. Esses started the scoring for the Waves, defeating Grayson Goldin 6-3, 6-2. Berdusco won a back and forth match against Jakub Wojcik, breaking the serve of his opponent to take the match 6-4, 7-5. The Bulls picked up wins on courts one and three to clinch the match. Though the match was already clinched, Mendelsohn's match with Pierre Luquet continued, reaching a tiebreak set, which he won 10-7.

UP NEXT

The Waves start West Coast Conference play next weekend when the team travels to Los Angeles to take on Loyola Marymount on March 21.
