MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team finished its series against Louisiana Tech on Sunday, falling in the finale, 9-3. Brandt Belk went 2-for-3 and Reese Alexiades went 2-for-4 for the Waves.

A five-run seventh inning from the Bulldogs (2-2) put the game out of reach and evened the weekend series with the Waves (2-2).

  • Freshman infielder Brandt Belk (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) went 2-for-3 with two singles and scored a run.
  • Freshman outfielder Reese Alexiades (Manhattan Beach, Calif./ Mira Costa HS) had two hits on the day.
  • Sophomore Easton Lucas (Simi Valley, Calif./Grace Brethren HS) started on the hill for the Waves, going three innings, giving up three runs on four hits, striking out one.
  • Junior outfielder Jordan Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS) went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead on a solo home run from Mason Mallard in the first. The Waves came back in the bottom half of the first to tie it up with a single from Chase Lambert, a double from Matthew Kanfer, and a sacrifice fly from Qsar. Pepperdine then took the lead in the second on another sacrifice fly, this time from Lambert, scoring Belk.

Lucas exited the game in the fourth inning, giving the ball up to freshman Raul Salazar, who went 2.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits. After Salazar, freshman Blake Harrison came in, and gave up three runs on no hits and three walks.

From the fourth inning on, the Bulldogs gained control of the game. In the fourth, LA Tech got two runs on RBI singles, then in the fifth, on another RBI single, taking the lead 4-2.

In the seventh inning, the Bulldogs got five runs after a bases loaded walk, a two-run double, and a two-run single, putting the game out of reach, 9-2.

The Waves got a run back in the ninth, on a Qsar double, scoring Duncan McKinnon, who singled to lead the inning off, pushing the game to the final score of 9-3.
