
Waves Give Gonzaga an Early Battle in Firestone

MALIBU, Calif. " Yasmine Robinson-Bacote and Paige Fecske each put in double digits in the Pepperdine women's basketball team's run against Gonzaga in Firestone on Saturday afternoon. Despite a solid early effort and a forced tie at halftime by the Waves, the Bulldogs came out strong after the break to earn the West Coast Conference 67-48 victory.
Pepperdine (9-17, 5-11 WCC) went into halftime with a 28-28 tie against the Zags (22-5, 15-1 WCC), a team that clinched the WCC regular season title after a Thursday night win at LMU. Gonzaga made the adjustments, however, and posted a 39-20 second half to finish things off with the win. Seniors Kim Jacobs, Peyton Langston and Tylinn Carter were all honored prior to the match.

- Yasmine Robinson-Bacote led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds, while adding two assists, two steals and a block.
- Paige Fecske also was good for double digits with 12 points on five from the field, one three and one free throw. She added two steals and an assist.
- Kim Jacobs added nine points and four boards.
- Peyton Langston produced six rebounds and two steals.
- Tylinn Carter amassed three rebounds and two steals.

- Gonzaga led the game with a 45.8% from the field, compared to the Waves 29.6%.
- The Bulldogs posted 30.8%-15.8% from long range against Pepperdine.
- The Waves excelled at the free throw line, amassing a 86.7% to the opposition's 64.3%.

In the second quarter, Gonzaga went ahead early, but Pepperdine continued to match, seeing tied throughout in the lowest scoring quarter of the day. Right before the halftime buzzer, Robinson-Bacote put a big layup to put the Waves ahead 28-26, but the Zags countered with one in the paint for themselves to send the game into half with the tie.
After the break, Gonzaga came out a different team, putting up a 7-4 run early to gain the advantage. Although the Waves stayed close at 36-34, they couldn't quite close the gap and another late 10-4 run gave the Bulldogs the 46-38 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Waves opened the final quarter with some big defensive play, but Gonzaga was ready to shut the door and amassed a 7-0 run to pull ahead 55-38 over the home squad. The Bulldogs continued to score late in the game and finished the WCC match-up off with the 67-48 win.
