 | PLAY-BY-PLAY |
A pitchers' duel between the Bulldogs' Matt Miller and Jensen lasted almost eight full innings. The Waves got the best of Miller, who had 10 strikeouts on the day, in the third, when Kanfer singled and scored from second on a Brandt Belk single, giving the Waves a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Bulldogs answered back with a run of their own. After being hit by a pitch from Kiko Garcia, who replaced Jensen in the seventh, Tanner Huddleston scored on a throwing error as he advanced from third to home. Another run almost scored, but Grover was quick behind the plate to grab the errant ball and flip it to Garcia to get the speedy Mason Robinson trying to score from second.
In the 11th inning, Josh Davis walked with one out, bringing up Matthew Kanfer, who launched a ball to deep center field, where it was nearly snagged by Parker Bates of Louisiana Tech. The ball did drop, allowing Davis to reach third on the play. Kanfer stood on second with a one-out double. Jordan Qsar was walked intentionally, bringing up graduate-transfer Dempsey Grover. Grover hit a ball sharply toward the 5-6 hole, and the ball barely sneaked past the third-baseman's glove and into the outfield, allowing Davis to score easily. Grover was mobbed by his teammates in the outfield, celebrating the victory.
