Fecske's 37 Points Lifts Waves Over LMU

Malibu, Calif. - Paige Fecske of the Pepperdine women's basketball team scored 37 points in the Waves' 85-74 win over PCH Cup rivals Loyola Marymount at Firestone Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

Fecske set a new career-high, and is now tied for seventh all-time in the Pepperdine record books for most points in a single game. The Waves (9-15, 5-9 WCC) went into the fourth quarter tied at 57's with the Lions (16-9, 8-6 WCC), but a strong offensive output helped the Waves to the conference win

The first quarter began with a 6-2 LMU run before the Waves went on a run themselves, scoring nine unanswered points ending the quarter locked in a 16-16 tie. The second quarter was a back and forth affair, with the lead changing eight times before the Lions headed into the locker room with a two-point advantage, 36-34.

After the break, the Waves came out firing, overtaking the lead and going up by as many as seven in the quarter. Fecske had 10 of her 37 points in the third, including back-to-back three-pointers to open things up for the Waves.

The score was tied at 57 heading into the final period of play. The Lions took a two-point lead early in the quarter, but the Waves quickly took over and never let up. Fecske had 10 more points in the fourth. The Waves were up 74-67 with 1:18 left to play, when the Lions fouled to try and lengthen the game. Pepperdine, however, would sink 11 of 14 free throws in the final minute, sealing the victory.
