PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's golf team closed out the fall season with a third-place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Wednesday.

The Waves were in second place after both the first and second round but USC pulled ahead of both the Waves and BYU to claim the title. Pepperdine finished with a three-day total of a 4-under 848 (281-282-285) at the par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Club.

In five fall tournaments, Pepperdine won twice and finished no worse than fifth.

PLAYER SCORES

Junior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) tied for ninth place with a 3-under 210 (68-71-71). He had four birdies during the final round and a team-high-tying 13 for the tournament. McCarthy finished in the top 10 in four of the five fall tournaments.
Sophomore RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) moved up to a tie for 12th place with a 2-under 211 (74-69-68). His 3-under today had four birdies and an eagle on his final hole.
Junior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) took 19th place with an even-par 213 (71-70-72). He had five birdies on Wednesday and also had 13 for the tournament.
Freshman Derek Hitchner (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) tied for 39th at 218 (72-72-74). He had two birdies today.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) tied for 43rd at 220 (73-75-72).
Freshman Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) tied for 60th at 224 (70-78-76). He had one birdie today.
