Men's Water Polo Sweeps Gary Troyer Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The #11 Pepperdine men's water polo team won two games on Saturday at the Gary Troyer Tournament hosted by Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Mate Toth had six goals on the day.
The Waves (9-6) had three athletes with at least four goals on the day.
PEPP 12, P-P 9
Pepperdine got off to a quick start, taking a 2-0 lead within the first five minutes, thanks to goals from Balazs Kosa (Budapest, Hungary/Csik Ferenc Általános Iskola És Gimnázium) and Coleman Carpenter (Pleasant Hill, Calif./College Park HS). After a goal from the Sagehens, the Waves got goals from Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) and Sam Paur (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) to give the Waves a 4-2 lead after one.
The Waves dominated the second period as well, getting goals from George Mooney (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS), Paur and Toth. The Sagehens got a single goal, and the Waves led 7-3 at the half.
After two goals from the Sagehens in to start the third, the Waves got three straight goals from Sean Ferrari (Redwood City, Calif./St. Francis HS), Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) and Toth to take a 10-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
Paur and Toth each had a goal in the fourth quarter, keeping the Sagehens, who scored three, at bay to take the victory.

A tightly contested game from the start, the Stags jumped out to an early lead. Kosa, Dilworth and Toth all scored for the Waves, but the Stags took a 5-3 lead into the second period of play.
The second quarter started well for the Waves, with Ferrari and Kosa each scoring twice for the Waves. The Stags scored twice in the quarter, sending the game to the half tied at seven.
Both teams were evenly matched in the third, with each team putting three balls in the net. For the Waves, Jarvis, Toth and Jacob Watson (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) scored. The game went to the final period tied at 10.
In the final quarter, the Waves and Stags matched up evenly, each scoring three goals, until Dilworth broke through in the final 15 seconds of the game to seal the Waves' ninth victory of the year. Dilworth scored two other goals in the quarter, along with Kosa's single goal.
