MALIBU, California – With two strong showings already this season, the #15 Pepperdine women's golf team looks to continue its momentum into next week's third tournament of the fall, Washington's Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.
EVENT INFO – The Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational will be held at the par-72, 6,004-yard Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington. There will be two rounds on Tuesday and one round on Wednesday (October 9-10). Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
FIELD – In addition to Pepperdine, the 12-team tournament also includes host Washington, BYU, Georgetown, Hawai'i, Iowa, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Rutgers, San Francisco, Seattle and UC Davis.
PEPPERDINE LINEUP – The Waves' lineup consists of senior Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia), junior Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand), senior Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i), senior Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif.) and freshman Kathrine Chan (Richmond, B.C., Canada).
RANKINGS – It's early with just two tournaments in the books, but the Waves are #15 in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings and are #23 in the WGCA coaches poll ... In the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings, Hira Naveed is #16, Momoka Kobori is #82 and Hannah Haythorne is #88.
EVENT HISTORY – This will be Pepperdine's 11th appearance at the Edean Ihlanfeldt since 1999 and the first since 2015. The Waves won the tournament in 2005. Tamie Durdin was the medalist in 1999. As a freshman, Patricia Wong tied for seventh in 2005.
ROSTER – Pepperdine has four veterans (three seniors and one junior) joined by two freshmen. Hira Naveed (2016, 2017, 2018), Momoka Kobori (2018) and Patricia Wong (2016) have all earned All-WCC honors in their careers, and the three were named to the preseason All-WCC team this year. Naveed was an individual qualifier to the 2018 NCAA Championships. She won her first college tournament at the season opener, New Mexico's Dick McGuire Invitational, by one shot with a 7-under 209.
LAST TIME OUT – The Waves posted their second straight second-place finish to start the season, finishing runner-up at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club. Hira Naveed was fourth, and both Hannah Haythorne and Momoka Kobori tied for 13th.
PEPPERDINE GOLF – Under the direction of Laurie Gibbs, who is now in her 26th season as head coach, Pepperdine has earned a place as one of the nation's top golf programs. Gibbs has been honored 12 times as the WCC's Coach of the Year, was tabbed the West Region Coach of the Year on two occasions and was selected the 2004-05 National Coach of the Year by Golfweek magazine. Gibbs was inducted into the WGCA Coaches Hall of Fame in December 2015. Under her leadership, the Waves have appeared in the NCAA Championships 12 times in the last 20 years, and have recorded eight top-10 finishes and four top-five showings, including a program-best second-place result in 2003. The Waves have won West Coast Conference championships in 17 of the last 21 years, including a streak of 14 titles that ran from 2002 to 2015.

ABOUT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY – Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #46 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
