Easton Lucas is a senior left-handed pitcher for the Pepperdine baseball team. He shares with us his experience from the Cape Cod League in Bourne, Massachusetts, this past summer as well as how things have been starting off for the team in the last couple of weeks:Â
Â
Q: What was summer ball like in the Cape Cod league the last couple of months?Â
Â
A: Summer ball was fun. It was a great environment to be playing baseball in.Â
Â
Q: What have you been doing since you got back from the East Coast?Â
Â
A: I've been practicing, working out and doing school. I spent a couple weeks with my family and then came back to school.
Â
Q: What are fall practices going to be like?Â
Â
A: Fall practices normally feel long as a pitcher. You only pitch once or twice a week so you spend a lot of time watching scrimmages from the dugout.Â
Â
Q: How do you work around baseball practice and classes?Â
Â
A: I tend to just get my schoolwork done in the morning. I know I'll be exhausted after practice and working out, so I get up early to get it done.
Â
Q: What are your expectations for next season?Â
Â
A:Â I expect us to do really well. I think we have a lot of good players returning from last year, and we'll have a few key contributors from the freshman class that should help us to excel as a team.
Â
Q: How have the new guys been acclimating so far?Â
Â
A: I think the new guys have acclimated pretty well. I think they are still finding their stride, but they should be okay as they get more comfortable and experienced. Â
Â
Q: What is the one thing you want to improve most for this season compared to last?Â
Â
A:Â I'm trying to have a much better array of pitches compared to what I had last year. I think this summer gave me a great foundation to build on, so I'm feeling excited about what I'll accomplish this coming season.Â
Â
Q: What are your plans following your final season here at Pepperdine?Â
Â
A: Ideally I will be playing professional baseball after this coming season, but my backup plan is to go into education or law.Â
