MALIBU, Calif.: The 8th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team's No. 1-ranked Mayar Sherif and Christine Maddox were selected to the ITA Collegiate All-Star Team after finishing the season as the top-ranked doubles pair nationally as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Wednesday afternoon.
The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team features the nation's top-ranked men's and women's players from the year-end Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, in addition to the winners of the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and 2017 NCAA Division I Championships.
Sherif and Maddox also finished the season as ITA All-Americans in doubles, while Sherif received both singles and doubles accolades. The last time a player earned both singles and doubles honors in a single season was 1996 when Isabela Petrov earned the distinction.
In addition to the All-Star Team and All-American honors, the duo received All-WCC first team doubles honors and garnered a WCC All-Tournament doubles selection. They earned WCC Doubles Pair of the Week on four occasions (4/11, 3/7, 2/14, 2/7) and reached the NCAA Doubles Championship round of 32. Throughout the campaign, Sherif and Maddox went 26-7 overall, including a 15-3 dual output at the No. 1 position for the Waves and a 10-7 record against nationally ranked opposition. In the fall, the duo tabbed the ITA Southwest Region doubles title.
