PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pepperdine baseball team's hot streak at the plate showed no signs of letting up on Saturday as the Waves beat Portland 14-8 on 15 hits. Pepperdine has now scored 42 runs on 50 hits in its last three games.

The Waves scored nine runs in the first two innings on Saturday after finishing last night's game with nine runs in the final two frames. The 42 runs scored is the most for the Waves in a three-game stretch since 2008. Pepperdine is now 16-14 overall and 5-3 in West Coast Conference play after winning its last five games. The Pilots fall to 6-24-1, 2-9 WCC.

Jordan Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS) led the charge, going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored, and Aaron Barnett (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Nine different Pepperdine players hit safely in the game and six drove in runs.

The Waves picked up where they left off, loading the bases in the top of the first with no outs before eventually putting up four runs. Ben Rodriguez (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) and Qsar hit back-to-back bases-loaded singles, chasing Portland starter Corbin Powers with no outs in the inning. Brandon Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) would work a bases-loaded walk for the third run and then the Waves scored on a double-play for the fourth.

A Barnett triple scored two runs to open the scoring in the top of the second and Qsar would follow with an RBI single to centerfield. Caruso doubled in a run and Matt Crowder (Atherton, Calif./Menlo School/BYU) made it a 9-0 game with an RBI single of his own.

Pepperdine starter Jonathan Pendergast (San Diego, Calif./Catherdral Catholic HS) ran into his lone inning of trouble in the fifth, when Portland loaded the bases and scored four runs on four hits. Pendergast would get two strikeouts to end the inning and strand two runners. The Waves' righty went 6.0 innings, giving up seven hits and four runs, while striking out six and walking three. The Pepperdine bullpen gave up four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough for a comeback for the Pilots.

Pepperdine added runs in the seventh and eighth innings, scoring on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly. Matt Gelalich (La Verne, Calif./Bonita HS) provided the exclamation point on Saturday, hitting a three-run shot to right in the top of the ninth inning.

Gelalich's three RBI were tied for the team lead and Caruso had two hits, two RBI and one run scored. Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) and Quincy McAfee (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) each scored twice in the game.

The Pilots had 13 hits on the day, getting multi-hit games from five players. Beau Brundage and Cody Hawken each had two-RBI games for Portland.

The Waves and Pilots play the final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. That game can be seen live on TheW.tv.
