MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Baseball team dropped the final game of the series to Pacific, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Waves take on UC Santa Barbara on the road on Tuesday before continuing WCC play against Gonzaga with a three-game series starting next Friday in Malibu.
Freshman Joe Caparis (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) had a career day at the plate, going 4-for-4 on the day.
The Waves lone run was scored in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Senior Aaron Barnett (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) after Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) and Caparis both singled.
Freshman Wil Jensen (Murray, Utah/Cottonwood HS) started on the mound for the Waves, going six innings, giving up four runs on ten hits, with four strikeouts in his third loss on the year. Michael Mahony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) came in for the seventh and eight innings, not allowing a run while striking four batters out.
For Pacific, James Free hit a home run in the fourth inning. Danny Mayer, Kevin Sandri, Matt Tarantino, and Ryan Schlach all had RBIs in the fifth inning, securing the victory for the Tigers.
The Waves are 11-11 overall on the year and start the WCC season 1-2.
