MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Baseball team split a doubleheader with Pacific on Saturday, taking the first game 7-6, and dropping the second game 11-5. The series will finish with a rubber match on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Waves picked up both their first win and loss in West Coast Conference play on Saturday, combining for twenty-two hits and twelve runs on the day.

Junior Ryan Wilson (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) started the first game for the Waves, giving 5.1 innings, allowing six runs. Junior Kiko Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./St. Augustine HS) came in and completed the game, getting the win on 3.2 innings, giving up no runs on just one hit, to pick up his third win of the year.

In the eighth inning of game one, down a run, Josh Davis (Tulsa, Okla./Union HS) walked, and Brandon Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) got a pinch-hit double. Davis advanced to third, and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Caruso was then plated by a Jordan Qsar (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla HS) single, putting the Waves up 7-6, with Garcia shutting the door to pick up the win.

For the Tigers, Danny Mayer hit two home runs in the first game.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Tigers came out with an offensive charge, hitting a three-run home run in the first inning. The Waves answered with an RBI single in the second from Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), and a two-run home run in the fifth from Quincy McAfee (Houston, Texas/Westside HS), his third on the year. From that point on, it was all Tigers, scoring eight more runs to Pepperdine's two to take the second game by a score of 11-5.

Max Gamboa (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais HS) started for the Waves in the second game, taking a no decision after throwing just three innings in his shortest outing of the year. Jonathan Pendergast (San Diego, Calif./Catherdral Catholic HS) came in and threw 3.1 innings, giving up 6 runs and taking his first loss on the year. Will Lydon picked up his third win on the year after throwing six innings and giving up four runs.

The Waves and Tigers will finish the series on Sunday, playing at 1 p.m. back in Stockton, Calif.
