
Waves Come up Just Short in Overtime at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team had a last second-shot that went just wide as the Waves came up short in overtime against Pacific on Saturday afternoon, 80-79, despite a career-best 25 points and 16 rebounds from Yasmine Robinson-Bacote.
In a game where the lead changed 12 times and was tied 12 times, Pacific hit two free throws with 7.2 seconds left to take the final lead in overtime. The Waves final shot went off the right side of the rim just before the final buzzer.
Pepperdine falls to 6-17 overall and 4-8 in West Coast Conference play, while the Tigers move to 9-14, 5-7 WCC. The teams split their season series with each team winning at home by one point.
Pepperdine led by as much as 10 points in the second half, but that came with 2:08 left in the third quarter. The entire fourth quarter was close.
Pacific came back to take their first lead of the second half with 6:02 to play and led by as much as four points in the fourth quarter. Allie Green would knock down a jumper with 1:18 left to tie the game again. After the teams traded the lead, Pepperdine had a 71-69 advantage with 22 seconds left, but two free throws by Geana Luaulu-Summers sent it to overtime.
The Waves struck first in extra time, getting another jumper from Green, but Janelle Grant came right back with a basket for the Tigers and it would be a back-and-forth battle for the entire five-minute period. Another Green basket put Pepperdine up one with just over a minute to go, but Luaulu-Summers answered to make it a 78-77 Tiger lead with 34 seconds to play.
Green would knock down two foul shots to put the Waves back up by one with 15 seconds to go, but Luaulu-Summers found her way to the line again and put Pacific ahead for good with 7.2 seconds remaining.
Green finished the game with 22 points, eight of which she scored in overtime. Paige Fecske finished with 15 points and six assists.
In what was also a tight first half, the Waves used a 9-0 run midway through the second quarter to take a 40-36 lead into the break. The run turned a one-point deficit into a 38-30 lead with 3:41 left in the half. Keyari Sleezer got things going with a jumper and Fecske followed with a three. Robinson-Bacote scored the last two baskets going to the hole. She had 13 points in the first half, 11 of which came in the second quarter.
The Waves shot 46.3% in the game and 42.1% (8-of-19) from three. Robinson-Bacote was 11-for-18 from the field. Pacific shot 39.7% from the floor and 33.3% from three, but used 14 offensive rebounds to score 14 second-chance points. Callie Owens led the Tigers with 20 points as the home team had four players score in double-figures.
Robinson-Bacote's double-double was her ninth of the season, putting her tied for the ninth best single-season total in program history.
