SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team dropped its regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon, falling to San Francisco 84-78 on the road.
Pepperdine ends the regular season 7-22 overall and 5-13 in West Coast Conference play. San Francisco finishes 17-12, 11-7 WCC. The Waves will be the eighth-seed in the WCC Tournament next week, taking on No. 9 Pacific at noon on Thursday. The conference tournament will be held once again at The Orleans arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Waves survived an early flurry of three pointers from the Dons and came back to take a one-point lead in the fourth quarter. A final run by the Dons put the Waves behind for good, however.
San Francisco hit six threes in the first quarter led by 10, 40-30 at the half. Rachel Howard hit five of the first-half threes on her way to a career-high 37 points on her senior day.
Pepperdine slowed Howard and the Dons offense down, going on a 9-2 run to start the second half. The Waves would play close with San Francisco the rest of the way, eventually taking the lead with 8:34 to play on a Yasmine Robinson-Bacote jumper.
A late 7-0 run stalled out the charge from Pepperdine and the Dons held off the Waves to the finish line.
Robinson-Bacote and Allie Green led the Waves offensively in the game, scoring 29 and 22 points respectively. Robinson-Bacote's 29 were a career high.
The Waves outshot San Francisco 42.3%-40.7% and outrebounded the Dons 43-38, but the home team's 10 threes made up the difference.
