COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Pepperdine Baseball team was defeated by the 20th-ranked Aggies of Texas A&M 3-0 in a non-conference game in College Station on Friday night. The Waves were outhit 8-2 in their first loss of the season.
In a duel between the two starting pitchers, Ryan Wilson (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) for the Waves, and Brigham Hill for the Aggies, runs were at a premium. The first run was scored in the first inning, after a single and a walk set up an RBI single for Jorge Gutierrez of the Aggies. The second and third runs came in the bottom of the eighth, off of reliever Kiko Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./St. Augustine HS).
Wilson went seven innings, with one earned run, five hits, and six strikeouts.
The Waves could not get the bats going, as the only two hits in the game came from Matt Gelalich (La Verne, Calif./Bonita HS), which came in the fourth inning, and Quincy McAfee (Houston, Texas/Westside HS), which came in the sixth inning.
The Waves continue the series against the Aggies Saturday at noon. The game will be broadcast on SECNetwork+.
