
Cross Country Runs at NCAA West Regional

MALIBU, California " Another big postseason meet lies ahead for the Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams with the NCAA West Regional in Seattle on Friday morning.

The meet is being hosted by the University of Washington at the Jefferson Park Golf Course. The women's 6K is at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's 10K at 11:30 a.m. Fans can pay to watch the race live on Flotrack.com.

- Pepperdine's seven men running at the NCAA West Regional are senior Kevin Maeda (Highland, Calif./Citrus Valley HS), junior Nick Heath (Scotts Valley, Calif./Scotts Valley HS), sophomore Jalen Frantal (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central HS) and freshmen Alex Egan (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS), Preston Gromer (Casper, Wyo./Kelly Walsh HS), Kyle Johnson (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester HS) and Justin Touhey (Stony Point, N.Y./Don Bosco Preparatory HS).
- The seven women include sophomores Izabela Garcia-Arce (Bonita, Calif./Bonita Vista HS) and Tatum Rask (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge HS) and freshmen Cassidy Aberson (Vacaville, Calif./Vacaville HS), Caroline Archer (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy), Abbey Meck (Santa Cruz, Calif./San Lorenzo Valley HS), Lindsay Sanger (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson HS) and Amanda Stahl (Clinton, Mass./Advanced Math & Science Academy).
- Heath is the men's program's record-holder in both the men's 8K and 10K. He ran 30:22.7 in the 10K at last year's West Regional to finish in 35th place, the best-ever result by a Pepperdine men's runner. Maeda is #6 on the 10K list with a 32:33.4 run at the 2014 West Regional.
- Heath is coming off a 15th place finish at the West Coast Conference Championships that earned him All-WCC honorable mention status. He was the first member of the men's team to reach the podium and earn a postseason honor since 2007.
- Meck has been the women's top runner at all five meets this season. She is #9 on Pepperdine's all-time 6K list with a 22:08.3 at the UC Riverside Invitational.

Head coach Robert Radnoti says: "It's going to be cold and rainy and cloudy and muddy and really great cross country coundiotns. I think our students are actually very excited about that. Our previous meets leading up to this have had great weather, and now it's time for real cross country, so we're excited about that."

For teams and individuals that qualify, the NCAA Championships are set for November 18 in Louisville, Kentucky.
