MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine women's soccer freshman forward Joelle Anderson was named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week after helping the Waves to two big road wins.
Anderson scored twice at BYU and once at San Diego, with an assist as well, to help keep Pepperdine perfect in WCC play. Anderson is the third Wave to win the weekly award and the first freshman in the conference to do so. Bri Visalli was named WCC Player of the Week last week and Brielle Preece earned the weekly honor earlier in the year.
After Pepperdine fell behind 1-0 early at BYU, Anderson scored twice in a matter of four minutes, hitting a pair of spectacular long-range strikes to give the Waves a 2-1 victory in Provo. Pepperdine then went to face second-place San Diego in a battle of the last two unbeaten teams in conference play, and Anderson posted an assist and goal in a convincing 3-0 win for the Waves. She sent a perfect ball forward to Alex Marmureanu for the opening strike of the game, and then scored on a through ball herself for the contest's second goal.
The Pepperdine freshman now has seven goals and four assists on the year, sitting second in both categories for the 13th-ranked Waves. Anderson is fifth in the WCC in total points with 18.
