
Women's Hoops Falls at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, California -- The Pepperdine women's basketball team fell to Santa Clara on Saturday, 61-40, in West Coast Conference action. Yasmine Robinson-Bacote led the Waves in scoring and rebounding with 13 and eight, respectively.
The Broncos (9-8, 4-2) shot 38% from beyond the arc, making 10 of their 26 attempts, while the Waves (5-12, 3-3) made only four three-pointers and hit on 23.5% of their field goals.
Santa Clara controlled the first quarter of play, leading 19-9. Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) led the Waves with five points in the first, along with two rebounds.
The Broncos also had the advantage in the second quarter and led 34-17 at halftime. The Waves were held without a field goal until the fourth minute when Robinson-Bacote (Hillside, N.J./Hillside HS) made a jumper from inside the paint. Robinson-Bacote scored all but two of the Waves' eight points in the quarter, the other two being scored by freshman Megan House (Oceanside, Calif./J Serra Catholic HS).
The Waves came out firing in the third quarter, but could only cut the lead to 14. Sydney Bordonaro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Burrell HS) hit her 31st three-pointer of the year, the most on the team.
The fourth quarter was much of the same, with the Waves only scoring eight points in the final period of play.
Bordonaro and Fecske both finished with eight points.
The Waves' next game is Thursday, January 19, at home against BYU. The game will start at 7 p.m. It will be shown online via WaveCasts on TheW.tv.
