MALIBU, Calif. - The West Coast Conference announced its 2016 Baseball All-Academic team this week and Pepperdine's Aaron Barnett and Matt Crowder were named to the squad. Kiko Garcia and Ben Rodriguez earned honorable mention.
Crowder and Barnett also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors as well earlier this month. Thirteen players were named to the WCC All-Academic team.
Crowder (Atherton, Calif.//BYU) earned the accolade after posting a 3.98 GPA as an economics major at Pepperdine. His GPA is the second highest on the team. Crowder has played 24 games as a redshirt junior for the Waves this season, totaling 17 hits and 11 runs scored. He has made 14 starts for the Waves.
Barnett (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) posted a 3.79 GPA also as an economics major. The Waves' junior catcher has the fourth highest batting average on the team, hitting .280 thus far this season, and has the most doubles on the squad with 13. Barnett has three homers, 20 RBI and 24 runs scored on the year.
Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./St. Augustine HS) has a 3.53 GPA and is a pre-business administration major at Pepperdine. He has a 4-3 record in 22 appearances and eight starts for the Waves. Rodriguez (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) has a 3.30 GPA as a physics major. The redshirt junior is second on the team with a .287 batting average. He has 28 RBI eight homers and six doubles.
