MALIBU, Calif.
- After taking the first two games of the series, the Pepperdine baseball team dropped its regular-season finale to Pacific on Sunday afternoon, 8-4.

The Waves still clinched a spot in the West Coast Conference Tournament earlier in the weekend and will be the No. 4 seed. Pepperdine plays top-seeded Saint Mary's on Thursday at 3 p.m. in Stockton, Calif. The Waves finish the regular season 28-22 overall, 16-11 WCC, while the Tigers close the year 22-30, 12-15.

Pacific opened the game with a pair of runs in the top of the first, getting two doubles and scoring on a wild pitch. The Tigers scored in three of the first five innings to start the day.

Pepperdine came back with a run in the bottom of the second, scoring on a bases loaded walk by Austin Bernard (Valley Center, Calif./Valley Center HS). Ben Rodriguez (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) and Chase Lambert (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) hit back-to-back singles and Chris Fornaci (Walnut Creek, Calif./De La Salle HS) loaded the bases with a perfect bunt down the third-base line.

After a Tiger run in the third inning, Fornaci came back up and plated two runs on a double down the left-field line to make it a 3-3 game in the fourth. Lucas Halstead would homer in the very next frame to put the visitors back on top, 4-3. A wild pitch in the top of the seventh made it 5-3 in favor of Pacific.

The Waves had a chance to tie it in the bottom of the seventh. Brad Anderson (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) singled in a run and then the Waves loaded the bases with one out. A passed ball that hit hard off the backstop put a runner out at home and then a groundout to first ended the inning.

Gio Brusa made it a 7-4 game with a two-run homer in the ninth inning. An RBI double would give the visitors their four-run advantage.

Brandon Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) went 3-for-4 at the plate and Fornaci led Pepperdine with two RBI. Four Pacific players posted multiple hits in the game, with Brusa leading the way with three.

The WCC Tournament will be held at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton this week. The double-elimination tournament will run Thursday through Saturday, with the first two games broadcast on TheW.tv and the final on ESPN.
