Waves Add Lauren Craig to Recruiting Class

May 13, 2016

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine women's basketball Head Coach Ryan Weisenberg announced the signing of Lauren Craig to a National Letter of Intent this week. Craig will join the Waves for the 2016-17 season as the fourth member of the program's recruiting class.

Craig is a 6-2 post/wing player hailing from Sacramento, Calif. She played her high school ball at Saint Francis Catholic and was a member of the JBS Elite AAU club.

The future Wave turned in a prolific prep career at Saint Francis, earning all-state and all-league honors during her time there. She was a three-time All-Delta League honoree and, as a senior, Craig earned MaxPreps All-State honors and was named the Delta League MVP. She was also named to the All-Metro first team by the Sacramento Bee and to the All-NorCal squad by Rivals.com.

For her career, Craig averaged 13.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, amassing a total of 1,260 points and 1,153 rebounds. As a senior she put up 16.8 points per game, 13.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks to lead her team to the state title game. Saint Francis went 14-0 in league play, making just the second state championship final in school history. Craig posted 29 double-doubles in 35 games as a senior.

Not just a star on the court, Craig was a four-time recipient of the Saint Francis General Excellence Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA or better. She comes from a long line of collegiate athletic excellence, with her father, Ian Craig, having played basketball at Oregon and her grandfather, Larry Petersen, earning first-team All-American honors as a baseball player at Oregon State. Petersen is a member of the Oregon State Hall of Fame.

Coach Weisenberg on Lauren: "We are very excited to add Lauren to the Pepperdine family. She is a solid post who is going to come in and make an immediate impact in the paint for us. Lauren is exactly what we looking for here at Pepperdine; she is a great basketball player, an excellent student and will contribute tremendously in the community. We are extremely happy to have her joining our squad next year and look forward to seeing her excel here in Malibu."

Lauren on why she chose Pepperdine: "Pepperdine is an ideal school for me because it has a strong sense of community, has an outstanding academic reputation, and is a great environment. I felt very comfortable from the minute I stepped on campus. All of the people I met were kind and supportive. The basketball program is on the rise and I can't wait to pursue success in both school and basketball at Pepperdine. Go Waves!"
