LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team bowed out of the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships held in La Jolla, Calif. this Saturday afternoon at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. The Waves started the day with two pairs still playing, one that had reached the round of 16 and one had advanced to the fourth round of the consolation bracket.
Sophomore pair Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) sophomore Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) had a strong day yesterday, winning through three rounds to advance to the round of 16 against the No. 1 seed from Rice, Bojan Szumanski and Krzysztof Kwinta. The Waves eventually dropped a tough match 7-5, 6-1 to fall out of tournament play.
In the consolation bracket, sophomore Nicholas Baez (Somis, Calif./Laurel Springs School) and freshman Guilherme Galvao (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Avanço) put in a strong effort after falling early on in the tournament, defeating two matches to reach the fourth round. The pair faced David Laser and Logan Smith of USC, dropping 6-1, 6-1 to end their outing on the weekend.
