NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Pepperdine baseball team suffered an 11-0 defeat at Tulane on Friday evening to open a three-game road series.

The Waves were within three runs for much of the game until Tulane broke the game open with eight runs in the final two frames. The loss drops Pepperdine to 3-6, while the Green Wave improves to 5-4.

Pepperdine scattered five hits in the game, but left eight runners on base. A.J. Puckett (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) tossed 6.0 innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs, but took the loss for the Waves.

Tulane scored three runs off Puckett in the third inning, using a two-run double and an error to go ahead 3-0. Three of the four hits Puckett gave up were in that third inning.

The Green Wave got to the Pepperdine bullpen for seven hits and eight runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.

Matthew Kanfer (Playa Del Rey, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) posted two of the Waves' five hits, going 2-for-4, and Ben Rodriguez (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) and Brandon Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) each hit doubles. Jake Rogers went 3-for-3 with three RBI for the home team.

The teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a 2 p.m. (PT) game in New Orleans. Sunday's game is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
