TAMPA, Fla. - The 53rd-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis opened the USF Quad Tourney with a tough 4-0 loss to tournament host's and 17th-ranked South Florida this Friday afternoon.
After a long delay due to rain, the Waves (5-7, 1-0 WCC) finally started the action this afternoon, first falling in the number three doubles position early on to USF (12-7). Waves' sophomore duo Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) and Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) then dropped Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy with a 6-4 decision to even the doubles option before the home team secured the point on court one.
USF then continued to do work on the singles courts, downing the Waves in three more sets on court four, three and one to clinch the sweep and finish the day with a win.
Freshman Jack Van Slyke (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Laurel Springs HS) was dominating his match on court six, with a 6-0 win in set one and 2-5 lead in the second set, but the home team completed the win before the match could finish, resulting in the match to remain unfinished.
Pane and Iamachkine also remained unfinished on singles play. The Waves will continue tournament play tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. (PT) against unranked Florida Atlantic. No live stats will be provided for matches that do not include host school USF.
