MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team finished off a four-game sweep of the Columbia Lions on Monday afternoon with an 11-3 win.

The Waves got another solid performance on the mound and Matthew Kanfer continued his hot hitting to lead Pepperdine at the plate. The Waves move to 8-8 with the win, while Columbia falls to 2-6.

Pepperdine scored a combined 41 runs through the four-game sweep and posted 49 hits over the course of the series. Kanfer (Playa Del Rey, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) went 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in four runs in what was his fourth straight multi-hit game. Manny Jefferson (Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood HS) also hit .500 for the series, going 7-for-14 at the plate.

The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead courtesy of a three-run homer from Will Savage in the second inning, but that was all the offense the visitors could muster as Pepperdine starter Easton Lucas (Simi Valley, Calif./Grace Brethren HS) settled in. Lucas didn't allow a hit through his next three innings, picking up the win after 5.0 innings pitched, four hits, three earned runs and two strikeouts.

The Waves immediately answered the three-run shot, scoring three of their own in the bottom of the third. Matt Gelalich (La Verne, Calif./Bonita HS) got Pepperdine on the board with a two-out single and then Kanfer tied the game with a two-run double. The Waves would score in each of the next four innings, putting up multiple runs in three of them.

A double by Chris Fornaci (Walnut Creek, Calif./De La Salle HS) in the third put Pepperdine ahead for good. Kanfer would add a solo-homer in the fourth and Brad Anderson (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) also went deep in the frame, hitting a solo-shot for his third home run of the year. Jefferson also doubled in a run in the fourth inning to make it 8-3 in favor of the Waves.

Isaiah Deutsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) tossed two perfect innings of relief following Lucas' exit, and Evan Dunn (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS) and Max Gamboa (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais HS) kept the Lions off the board in the eighth and ninth innings respectively.

Pepperdine posted 13 hits in the win. Kanfer, who is now hitting .417 on the year, finished a triple shy of the cycle and Jefferson went 2-for-3, with an RBI and three runs scored. Aaron Barnett (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) also had a two-hit day and drove in a run.

Savage led the way for the Lions, who had seven hits on the day, going 2-for-4, with three RBI. Josh Simpson took the loss to fall to 0-1.

The Waves will be back in action this weekend, when they travel to Gonzaga for a three-game series to open up West Coast Conference play.
