DENVER, Colo. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team dropped a 75-67 non-conference contest on the road to Denver on Tuesday afternoon, despite a fourth-quarter push and four players scoring in double figures.
Yasmine Robinson-Bacote (Hillside, N.J./Hillside HS) put up 18 points and the Waves cut it to a seven-point game in the final quarter, but the Pioneers held them off in the final seconds. Pepperdine falls to 0-8 on the year, while Denver moves to 3-6.
Denver went up by as much as 17 points in the final period, but a 10-2 Pepperdine run made it 63-54 with 4:20 to play. The Waves cut it to a single digit margin two more times, including seven points late, but couldn't come all the way back.
The teams traded the lead four times in the first quarter, but a three just before the end of the period made it a two-point Denver lead. The Pioneers led by 10 at the half.
After a poor shooting first half, the Waves finished shooting 39 percent for the game. Denver shot 44.1 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from three. The Pioneers got 20 points and 16 rebounds from Jesse Spittel.
