
Pepperdine Falls at Home to Portland, 71-61

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Women's Basketball team fell to Portland, 71-61, in a West Coast Conference game on Saturday afternoon, giving the Waves their first WCC loss of the year. Allie Green finished with 26 points for Pepperdine.
The loss ended the Waves' (3-10, 1-1) three-game winning streak and gave the Pilots (3-10, 1-1) their first WCC victory. Portland shot 40% from three (9-of-22), while the Waves hit just three 3-pointers all game.
Portland controlled a close first quarter, leading 18-15 after one period of play. Green (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento HS) had five points in the first, leading the Waves, followed closely behind by Yasmine Robinson-Bacote (Hillside, N.J./Hillside HS) with four.
The second quarter was a similar story to the first; a closely contested period of play, ending with the Pilots maintaining a three-point lead. Green added another five points, leading all scorers with ten at the half. Pepperdine ended the second quarter on a 9-0 run to close an 11-point deficit.
Green added another 10 points in the third, to bring her to 20 for the game. Robinson-Bacote made a layup with 1:17 left in the period to give the Waves their first lead of the contest at 41-40. The Waves led 45-43 after three quarters of play.
The Pilots took hold of the lead with a three and a jumper in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter. Portland then used a 12-0 run to pull away, at one point leading by 13. The Waves gave a good push, cutting it back to a nine-point game in the final minute, but couldn't overcome the deficit.
Green's 26 points led all scorers and were her second highest total of the year, and Robinson-Bacote had 12 points for the Waves.
Portland had three players in double-digits, led by Kaylie Van Loo with 15 points. The Pilots held a 38-29 rebounding advantage.
The Waves' next game is Thursday at 7 p.m. on the road against Loyola Marymount. Pepperdine then heads to San Diego on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast live on WaveCasts and TheW.tv.
