MALIBU, Calif. -- Yasmine Robinson-Bacote scored a career-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough to push the Pepperdine women's basketball team past the Nevada Wolfpack at home on Sunday afternoon, as the Waves fell 69-60.
Allie Green (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento HS) added as season-high 17 points in the game as Pepperdine falls to 0-3 on the year, while Nevada moves to 3-1.
"Our girls have been competing, we've just shot ourselves in the foot a little on the offensive end," said head coach Ryan Weisenberg. "Defensively we did a pretty good job. We had a couple hiccups toward the end of the game, but overall I was happy with our defensive effort. On the offensive side we were getting decent looks, but we just weren't able to knock them down. That's something we have to keep working on."
The Waves got off to a slow start, falling behind 10-2 in the first few minutes. Robinson-Bacote (Hillside, N.J./Hillside HS) would score the first eight points of the game for Pepperdine, keeping the Waves close through the first quarter. Pepperdine got back-to-back threes from Kim Jacobs (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura HS) and Sydney Bordonaro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Burrell HS) midway through the second quarter to tie the game at 20-20.
Nevada outpaced the Waves to the break, going on a 10-4 run to close the half with a 30-24 lead. The Wolfpack hit 3-of-7 threes in the first half and both teams scored 14 points in the paint.
Pepperdine cut it to a five-point game several times in the third quarter and in the fourth, the Waves cut it to a three point game with 4:53 to play on a Robinson-Bacote layup. A 9-3 run pushed it back to a 64-55 game with just over two minutes to play.
Nevada Used a 9-3 run to go back up by nine points and hold off Pepperdine to the final.
The Waves held a 34-28 points in the paint advantage, but the Wolfpack hit seven threes in the game to just two for Pepperdine.
Robinson-Bacote posted her second straight double-double, adding 10 rebounds to her 20 points. Megan House (Oceanside, Calif./J Serra Catholic HS) led all players with 11 rebounds. Nevada got 18 points from Stephanie Schmid as she was one of four Wolfpack players to score in double figures.
The Waves will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to New Mexico State for a non-conference matchup. Game time will be 12 p.m. (PT) with an audio broadcast available on WaveCasts.
