
Waves Get Season Underway Against San Diego State

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team opened its season with a dual meet against San Diego State on Thursday afternoon at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.
The Waves swam numerous strong early-season times in the meet, getting set for the PCSC Relays and Pentathlon this weekend. The Aztecs won the dual by a score of 155-53.
Freshman Gabrielle Mathys picked up a win for the Waves in the 500 free, swimming a 5:16.07, and fellow rookie Khloe McCarthy placed second with a 5:22.35.
Julianna Chan and Anna Riekhof placed second and third in the 100 breaststroke, swimming 1:07.42 and 1:08.59 respectively. Riekhof and Chan also grabbed top 3 finishes in the 50 breasstroke, with Riekhof placing second with a :31.54 and Chan third with a :31.56. Chan was also part of the Waves' 200 medley relay team that took third, along with Rachel Wong, Julia Sneden and Caroline Boone.
Wong grabbed fourth place in the 50 back, swimming a personal best time of :29.23. Sneden added fourth place finishes in both the 100 fly and 50 fly, and Boone posted a fourth in the 100 free and a personal best 25:63 in the 50 free.
Cassie Anderson grabbed two top 5 finishes, placing fourth in the 100 back and fifth in the 50 back. Joie Eckhard grabbed fourth in the 500 free and Morgan Rosztoczy earned fourth in the 50 free. Madison Cooper had two fifth place finishes in the 100 free and 50 fly. Copper also swam a new personal best :27.59 in the 50 fly as part of the Waves' 200 medley relay B team. Jessica King swam a personal best 50 free time of :25.22 as part of the medley relay C squad.
Rounding out the other fifth place finishes were Sydney Brault in the 500 free, Megan Minor in the 100 back, Lauren Allard in the 100 breast and Kathrine Kuhlmann in the 100 fly.
In the diving competition, Tori Occhipinti placed fourth with a score of 243.65. Sydney Newman grabbed fifth with a 217.10.
Megan Henley swam a personal best :30.85 in the 50 back, and Sam Marlott (:29.15) and Abby Crawford (:28.81) swam personal bests in the 50 fly.
The Waves continue competition on Friday at the PCSC Relays in La Mirada, Calif., and then at the PCSC Pentathlon on Saturday.
