MALIBU, Calif. - Rylee Baisden was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday after helping the Pepperdine women's soccer team stay atop the conference standings with a pair of wins. It is her second weekly award of the season.
Baisden scored a goal and had an assist on the week as the Waves beat Santa Clara 2-1 on Friday and then downed San Francisco 1-0 on Sunday. The two victories move Pepperdine a win away from clinching a WCC title with two games to play.
Baisden converted a penalty kick in the first half of Pepperdine's win over Santa Clara for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. She then posted her fifth assist of the year against San Francisco when she fired off a shot that was just barely stopped by the Dons' goalkeeper before falling right to Taylor Alvarado for the game-winning goal in the 76th minute.
The senior forward has a team-high 17 points on the year. Baisden is currently tied for fourth in the league with her six goals and her five assists are tied for third.
Pepperdine faces PCH Cup Rival and second-place Loyola Marymount on Sunday in Malibu for what could be the decisive game of the WCC season. The Waves close out the regular season with a road game at Pacific the following week.
