MALIBU, Calif. - After the Pepperdine women's soccer team picked up two West Coast Conference wins to grab sole possession of first place in the league standings this past week, senior goalkeeper Hannah Seabert was named WCC Player of the Week.
Seabert helped lead the Waves to two huge shutouts on the week as No. 25 Pepperdine beat San Diego 2-0 and then grabbed the top spot in the WCC standings with a 1-0 victory over No. 5 BYU.
Seabert had to make just four saves on the week, but commanded the box in both contests, catching numerous crosses before an attacker could get to them. Seabert made a spectacular save in each game, keeping San Diego from tying up Thursday's contest in the second half by batting away a wide-open close-range shot. She then made a diving stop in what was still a scoreless game against BYU on another close-range attempt.
Seabert has yet to allow a goal in four WCC games and has led the Waves to a total of eight shutouts on the season. Pepperdine's standout keeper is just 11 saves away from setting the school's all-time career record.
The Waves hit the road for their lone game this week, playing at Saint Mary's on Saturday.
