Sept. 19, 2015 Malibu, Calif.: It was another exciting day at the Oracle/ITA Masters as Waves duo including junior Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and freshman Gabriel Sidney (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil/Anglo Americano) defeated No. 28 Quentin Monaghan and Alex Lawson of Notre Dame to advance to the tournament's championship match.
After the big win over the No. 1 partnership in the nation out of Georgia yesterday, the Waves continued strong play by coming out today with tenacity. Hadlich and Sidney worked for a 6-4 set one win before battling it out in set two towards a 7-5 win and victory on the day.
The pair will face the nationally ranked No. 2 team out of Virginia, Luca Corinteli and Ryan Shane (No. 2 seed) at 10 a.m.
Over at the Battle at the Bay in San Francisco, the competition was tough. Partners Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) and Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) fell to San Diego's Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek with an 8-2 decision.
Iamachkine garnered a singles win over Pacific's Daniel Alameh, but eventually fell in the next round to Uros Petronijevic of San Diego with 6-2 and 6-2 set scores. Pane dropped out of the singles consolation bracket as well after dropping a match to Toby Mitchell of Boise State with 6-2 and 6-0 decisions.
Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) and Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) also dropped out of the singles tournament. Menichella dropped a match to Michigan's Davis Crocker. Hill dropped the first set, 6-3, to Boise State's Kyle Butters, but then bested the opposition 6-3 to even the sets.
