EDMONTON, Alberta - Representing her country for the second time this summer, Pepperdine women's basketball alum Miranda Ayim helped Team Canada take home another title at the FIBA America's Championship this past weekend. The win qualifies Canada for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Ayim previously helped the Canadian National Team to gold at the Pan American Games in July, which were also held in her native Canada. It is the third win in international competition for Canada, which also won a FIBA America's Championship in 1995.
The former Waves standout scored 11 points in the title game, which was an 82-66 win over Cuba for Canada. Ayim helped the Canadians go a perfect 6-0 at the tournament, averaging 10.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest as a regular starter.
Ayim has competed for the Canadian National Team since 2011, playing in the 2012 Olympics, the 2014 FIBA World Championships, the 2015 Pan Am Games and three FIBA America's Championships (2011, 2013, 2015). She has also played for the Canadian U-21, U-19 and U-18 teams.
In her four years at Pepperdine, Ayim was a three-time All-WCC first team and All-Academic selection. She set the school record for blocked shots with 182 and finished her career eighth in scoring with 1,377 total points and eighth in rebounding with 735 boards.
Since leaving Malibu in 2010, Ayim has played professionally in the WNBA, for the Tulsa Shock, and in both Turkey and France. She currently plays for Toulouse Metropole in France.
