July 21, 2015 CANADIAN NATIONAL TEAM RELEASE
TORONTO - Pepperdine women's basketball alum Miranda Ayim helped lead the Canadian National team to a gold medal at the Pan American Games last night, with an 81-73 win over Team USA.
Ayim scored six points and grabbed four rebounds in just over 18 minutes of work to help lead Canada to its first ever Pan Am gold medal and second ever tournament win at an international competition (1995 FIBA Americas Championship).
The former four-year Pepperdine standout averaged 7.8 points per contest as Canada went a perfect 5-0 at the games. Ayim led her team in scoring against Argentina during group play, putting up 12 points in a 73-58 win. She started all five games for Team Canada in what was her fifth international competition with the senior national team since graduating from Pepperdine in 2010.
In her four years at Pepperdine, Ayim was a three-time All-WCC first team and All-Academic selection. She set the school record for blocked shots with 182 and finished her career eighth in scoring with 1,377 total points and eighth in rebounding with 735 boards.
Since leaving Malibu, Ayim has played professionally in the WNBA, for the Tulsa Shock, and in both Turkey and France. She is currently the starting center for Toulouse in France.
