MALIBU, Calif. -- The #40-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team delivered an inspiring doubles performance, before cruising in singles to a 4-0 triumph over Pacific on Friday afternoon. Tied for second place with the Tigers in the West Coast Conference entering the match, the Waves are now all alone in second place with one match left on the schedule.

Pepperdine is now 14-8 overall in 2015, with a 6-2 tally in WCC matches. Pacific drops to 8-16 overall, and 5-3 in league play. Portland also began the week tied for second place with the Waves and Tigers at 5-2, and concludes its regular season at San Francisco and Santa Clara on Saturday and Sunday.

The Waves had their work cut out for them in doubles, falling behind 1-4 at both No. 2 and No. 3.

Despite a solid effort by Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) and Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS), the Pepperdine pair succumbed to a 6-3 defeat at No. 2.

Freshman duo Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) and Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goeth Gymnasium Bensheim) showed maturity beyond their years, rallying back to get on serve at 4-5 vs. Alex Hamilton and Daniel Alameh at No. 3. The Tigers' threaten to break back, tied 40-40 in the next game, but Pepperdine dug deep to win the point and extend the match at 5-5. With momentum on their side, Pane and Marquard won two more games to take the 7-5 triumph.

Faced with a must-win situation of their own, Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and Rakshay Thakkar (Pune, India/St. Vincent's High School) were also forced to fend off a break and match point opportunity against Pacific's Miguel Diaz and Jose Chamba. Tied 6-6, the two sides went to a tiebreaker to determine the winner of the doubles point. Diaz and Chamba jumped out to a 5-3 lead, but Hadlich and Thakkar stormed back with four unanswered points to take the match.

Up 1-0 after doubles, the Waves continued to roll in singles and won first sets on five of the six courts.

Pane was the first off the court, dispatching Marlon Brand in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.

Hadlich improved to 5-0 when playing at No. 1 with his victory today against Pacific. The sophomore posted a 6-3, 6-3 triumph versus Diaz to lift Pepperdine to a 3-0 advantage.

From there, it was a race to clinch, as Iamachkine, Thakkar and Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) were all in command with second set leads.

Iamachkine would win the race to the finish line, downing Sem Verbeek, 6-3, 6-4.

With the Waves out of reach at 4-0, the remaining matches were abandoned.

Pepperdine celebrates Senior Day on Saturday, April 18, vs. Saint Mary's. Thakkar and Kento Tanaka-Tamaki (Kihei, Hawaii/St. Anthony Junior-Senior HS) will be honored prior to the 1 p.m. start.
