MALIBU, Calif. - Alexander Solonin and Kento Tanaka-Tamaki of the Pepperdine men's tennis team saw their impressive run at the 126th annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championship come to an end today in the quarterfinal round.
The Wave tandem was one of over 100 doubles pairs in action at the annual championship, which features both collegiate and non-collegiate players of all ages. Solonin (Tarzana, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) and Tanaka-Tamaki (Kihei, Hawaii/St. Anthony Junior-Senior HS) won three times yesterday to reach the round of 16.
There, they met William and Mary's No. 1 doubles team of Aaron Chaffee Will Juggins. Solonin and Tanaka-Tamaki advanced with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) triumph.
Pepperdine met seventh-seeded Karue Sell and Joseph Di Giulio of UCLA in the quarterfinals. The Bruins proved too much, and won in straight sets to end the Waves' run.
Dual action resumes next week for Pepperdine on Tuesday, March 10 with a home match vs. SMU. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
