Waves Earn 4-3 Victory over Memphis

STILLWATER, Okla. - It was another barnburner for the #49 Pepperdine men's tennis team, who edged #61 Memphis 4-3 in a neutral court contest on the campus of Oklahoma State. Freshman Pedro Iamachkine provided the dual-clinching victory for the Waves.

Pepperdine moves to 8-5, following its sixth 4-3 triumph of the year. The Waves won the doubles point before Memphis battled in singles to a 3-3 draw. Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) provided the fourth point with a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 4. The freshman has proved a reliable player in the clutch, and is now 4-0 in dual-clinching opportunities.



The Waves got a leg up in doubles, winning matches at No. 1 and No. 3. After the Tigers (6-6) won at No. 2, Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) and Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goeth Gymnasium Bensheim) kept Pepperdine in it and edged Ryan Peniston and Shakeel Manji, 7-5.



#79-ranked Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and Rakshay Thakkar (Pune, India/St. Vincent's High School) secured the point with a 6-4 win over #55 Connor Glennon and Kai Lemke.



Memphis scored first in singles, but Pane put Pepperdine back out in front with his 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.



Hadlich made it 3-1 after dispatching #56 Peniston in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.



The Tigers began to gain a bit of momentum, after posting wins at No. 3 and No. 1. Thakkar fell in three sets to Andrew Watson, while Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) suffered a heartbreaking 7-6, 7-6 loss to #56 Glennon.



Iamachkine went point-for-point with Patrick Mayer at No. 4, but in both sets was able to break late to take the win. Behind a final score of 7-5, 7-5, the freshman delivered his fourth dual-clinching win of the season and improves to a team-best 8-3 in dual action.



Pepperdine concludes the weekend with a 10 a.m. (PT) dual vs. #32 Oklahoma State on Sunday, March 15.
