MALIBU, Calif. - The #49 Pepperdine men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to #47 SMU on Tuesday night at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Pedro Iamachkine and Tom Hill earned a win in their first doubles match together, but the Mustangs proved to be too tough the rest of the way.\
SMU (14-2) won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The Waves (7-5) avoided the sweep courtesy of Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) and Hill's (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) 6-2 triumph over Tony Russell and Samm Butler.
The Mustangs carried over the momentum in singles, winning first sets on four of the six courts. The visitors sealed the deal, charting straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4.
Iamachkine was up 6-4, 4-3 on Russell at No. 5 when play was suspended.
Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goeth Gymnasium Bensheim) nearly put a point on the board for Pepperdine, but the overhead lights malfunctioned, delaying the conclusion of his match. He was up 6-1, 6-6 when SMU clinched the dual.
Pepperdine continues to week in Stillwater, Oklahoma to face Memphis (March 14) and Oklahoma State (March 15).
