SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team picked up a 76-65 win on the road against San Francisco on Saturday.
The Waves got a 20-point performance from Keitra Wallace in the game and a big second half from Ea Shoushtari to pull away from the Dons in San Francisco.
Pepperdine led nearly wire-to-wire, taking the lead with 16:02 to play in the first half and never relinquishing it. Though the Waves led almost the entire first period, they never went up by more than eight and took a 30-27 advantage into the break.
Bria Richardson (Hawthorne, Calif./Serra HS) led the way early, scoring 13 points in the opening period as the Waves knocked down 5-of-12 threes.
A 9-3 run out of the gate in the second half put Pepperdine up 39-30, and then with 14:43 to play Kim Jacobs (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura HS) hit a jumper to make it a 10-point game. After USF cut it back to an eight-point game, Shoushtari (Los Angeles, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) made a pair of free throws and Devin Stanback (West Hills, Calif./Chaminade HS) hit a jumper and a free throw to give the Waves their largest lead of the day, 55-42, at the 6:00 mark.
Pepperdine made 22-of-26 free throws in the second half, including nine by Wallace (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) and six by Shoushtari. The Waves were 27-of-31 from the foul line in the game, while USF went just 12-of-16 from the charity stripe.
The Dons cut it to a seven-point game with just under three minutes to play and then with :41 second left made it a 69-63 contest with a three-point play by Taj Winston. The Waves closed it out at the free throw line, however, hitting 7-of-8 foul shots down the stretch and holding USF to just one last second basket.
The 27 free throws made by the Waves were the second most on the season for the team. Pepperdine also hit seven threes in the contest and had just 11 turnovers to 21 for the Dons. The Waves scored 25 points off giveaways in the game.
Wallace led the visitors with 20 points, giving the junior her second 20-point game of the year. Shoushtari finished with 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Richardson also scored 15 on the day. Shoushtari led the team with five assists and three steals, and Wallace had a team-best six boards.
Aundrea Gordon led USF with a game-high 21 points and Taj Winston put up a double-double for the home team with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
The Waves move to 8-12 overall, 3-14 WCC with the win and USF falls to 15-12, 6-10 WCC. Pepperdine has one game remaining in the regular season, as the Wave face PCH Cup rival LMU next Saturday on the road.
